Safety Pin Necklace

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today I am going to show you how to make your own safety pin necklace!

I started with a bunch of safety pins, some stretch cord (.8 mm) and some beads from an old necklace.

I just started to feed the beads onto the safety pins.

Then I fed the cord threw the bottom of all the safety pins and then put my beads on the cord on both sided, in whatever way you would want them to be.

Once you have all of your beads in the order you want, and make sure you measure on yourself where you want your necklace to hang, then you can add your lobster claws.

Feed them on the cord.

Tie a square not in the stretch cord, right where you want your lobster claw to be. I added a drop of super glue just to ensure that my not wouldn't come undone, just make sure it is where you want it before you add super glue.

Now you have made your own necklace! I love how this turned out, I think I am going to make different colored necklaces, and I might whip out a bracelet or two....so stay tuned!

Perfect for St. Patrick's Day!!!!

Now I am off to get my corned beef and cabbage started!!! Yum Yum!!!

Rainbow birthday card

It is my daughter Brooke's 4th birthday today! She is having care bear birthday party today, so I will be posting that next week! This is the birthday card that I made her.

I used a white sketch pen and sketched happy birthday with my silhouette! I love that thing!
Then I cut out the words and used 3-D dots to raise it up.

I took Elmer's glue and spread it all over the clouds and added some glitter to it!

I think it turned out pretty cute!!!

Happy Birthday Brooke!!!

"Lucky" decorative board

This is my "Lucky" decorative board (I don't know what else to call it)

I kind of thought this up as I went along, but I absolutely love how it turned out!

I started off with some scrapbook paper, paint brush, mod podge and the bottom of an old dresser. It is just some particle board. You could use any wood though.

The first step is to cut your scrapbook paper into squares. It doesn't matter what size, just as long as they are all the same size.

Now you should have several different colors of squares

I first laid them all out on my board to get an idea of how I wanted it to look

Then I started to glue them on the board.

Make sure you are getting all the bubbles out as you go. Use a finger that doesn't have any glue on it to spread the paper flat.

Then once you have all your squares glued on I turned my board over and trimmed off most of the over lapping paper, leaving about 1/2 in.

Then I glued what was left to the back of the board, so the sides were covered in paper as well.

This is what you should have so far.

Now start spreading Mod Podge all over the front, I was pretty generous with it too. I wanted it all covered really well.
Then let it dry completely.

I wanted a little bit of a rustic look, so I took some Minwax wood finish to it.

I took an old rag and dipped and spread it all over the board. I wiped most of it off, but I liked the rustic look.

I then took a piece of brown 12x12 card stock and added my the vinyl that I wanted.
I just glued it on and added more mod podge over all of it.
I wanted to give it a more framed look, so I took some brown ribbon and glued it all the way around.

I added a little jewel to the shamrock
I think it turned out pretty cute! I think I am going to keep this up year round!!!

Homeade Mounds bars

I was craving chocolate the other day (I do more than I should) and happened onto this recipe. It did the trick!
They were super good! Really rich!!

Mounds bars:

2 lbs powdered sugar
1 lb. coconut
1/4 lb. margarine, melted
1/3-1/2 evaporated milk
2 T. vanilla
1 big bag of chocolate chips

Mix all ingredients down to the chocolate. Shape into balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Place in freezer until hard enough to dip in chocolate. (about 30 minutes)
Melt the chocolate chips in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds. Dip coconut balls in chocolate and let set until chocolate hardens. Enjoy!!!

I found my recipe Here

Guest post!!

Today I am doing a blog swap with Natalie from Corduroy Dreams. I am so excited to do this, she is so talented and has such great ideas! I am guest posting for her today so go check it out!

Hey everyone! My name is Natalie, and I blog over at Corduroy Dreams. I am so excited to be guest posting for Trina today. She is so talented and I love to watch her blog for all of the new ideas she comes up with!

I cannot wait for Spring to come. Here in Utah, we've had some REALLY nice days, and it's really given me Spring Fever, so of course, I wanted to add some Spring into my decor. I'm going to show you how to make these really cute Spring Blocks.

Wanna make your own?

You'll need 3 2x2's. Mine were 10, 8, and 6 inches long. If you don't have a saw handy, just ask the Home Depot guys to cut the wood for you. They're awesome!

Make sure to sand off any rough spots and paint the blocks whatever color you want!

Then take some coordinating scrapbook paper and cut it just barely smaller than your blocks and Mod Podge them on the front.

Make sure to smooth out your paper so there aren't any bubbles. I used my brayer, which I love. Or you could use a credit card or rolling pin or whatever.

Then sand the edges to distress your blocks. I used my dad's power sander *swoon*.

Here are my blocks with the paper on front.

I cut some vinyl on my Cricut, but if you don't have a Cricut or a Silhouette, then you can print it off your computer onto your paper, or use some stickers or a stencil.

Once your words are on, put a thin layer of Mod Podge over top so the lettering doesn't come off.

If you want, add some scrapbooking flowers, like I did.

Wrap some raffia or a cute ribbon around the blocks and there you have it! So Springy!

Make sure you stop by my blog and see all of the things I'm working on. (And I may be hosting a giveaway soon... shhh!)

Thanks for having me, Trina.

Cleaning tips!

Once in awhile I will happen onto something that I feel is worth while to pass on.
So, I have decided to try and do a "cleaning tip" post every so often.

The other day I was at our church playing volleyball with some of my friends, when my daughter collided with another little girl. She was thrown back into the corner of the door, and in the process ended up with a pretty good size gash on her head. You know how head wounds bleed, so she had a good amount of blood on her shirt.
Well, I my sister in law had told me that hydrogen peroxide will take out blood on clothes.
So I put it to the test.
We had blood all over this one shirt that was fairly new, so I didn't want to get rid of it quite yet.
I took some H. P. and poured it directly onto the stains.
It bubbled up, and then I took a wet rag and scrubbed it, and then rinsed it under cold water.
To my amazement, all the blood came out!!!
It worked!
I wish I had taken a picture...it was awesome!

I know H.P. has a lot of good uses. I am a believer in it now.
I actually have some in a squirt bottle that I keep to spray counters down.
I mixed it 50/50 with water
(this is me in my kitchen....I wish...it is always pandemonium in my kitchen...who's kitchen looks like this???)

You can use it in laundry (instead of bleach)
to wash produce
and supposedly you can spray it in your hair to give you natural highlights!
I have never tried this.....so I can't tell you if it works, but it sounds neat!

So, there you have it....my first cleaning tip!!! Just be careful using it!!!
I don't want any accidents....yikes!
